Your Herndon Plumber for Hot Water and Everything Else

When you need water heater repair in Herndon, VA, Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air sends a licensed plumber 24/7, with no overtime fees at night or on weekends. We repair gas and electric tank heaters and tankless units. The calls we see most are no hot water at all, hot water that runs out after a few minutes, a tank that leaks or drips from a valve, and gas heaters whose pilot will not stay lit. In many cases a single part has failed, and replacing it puts the heater back to work on the visit where we diagnose it.

Herndon's homes run from older ramblers and split-levels near the historic downtown to townhome communities and newer single-family streets closer to Dulles. Older houses tend to have the heater in a basement or crawlspace utility area, often next to original copper or galvanized piping that has seen a lot of years. Townhomes usually tuck a smaller tank into a closet. Whatever the setup, our plumbers in Herndon, VA look at the heater and the connections around it, because a leak at a corroded fitting can look exactly like a leaking tank.

HOW WE WORK

What Happens on a Herndon Water Heater Call

We start by asking what changed. A heater that suddenly went cold tells a different story than one that has been slowly losing capacity for months. Next comes a look at the tank, the relief valve and the drain valve for leaks or rust, followed by a check of the venting on gas units. Then we test the working parts: elements and thermostats on electric heaters, the thermocouple, igniter and gas control on gas heaters, and the flow sensor and error history on tankless models. Finally we tell you what we found, whether repair makes sense for a heater of that age, and what it would take. If the tank itself has failed, our water heater replacement team can take it from there, including a switch from gas to electric or the other way around. Before we leave, we set the thermostat to a safe temperature, test the relief valve, and make sure there are no drips at the connections we touched. If the heater has been working hard against hard water, we may suggest a flush schedule so you are not calling us again for the same noise next year.

Fantastic service - bought a home with a very old hot water heater, and Brick Street’s quote came out to be substantially less than the other plumbers I spoke with. No compromise on service for the price, though - Mary was incredibly responsive and friendly when it came to scheduling a time to install the new water heater, and Tylerr did an outstanding job getting the water heater set up and running. Overall very easy to work with, reasonably priced, and professional!

I requested an estimate through Home Depot, and they referred me to Brick Street Plumbing. Water Heaters, From beginning to end, my experience was excellent! Brian came to my home, carefully explained the different options available, and walked me through the entire installation process. He was very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and always available to answer my questions. Communication with Brian was outstanding throughout the entire project. One of the best parts of the installation was that they were able to relocate my water heater into an unused space in my basement. Update 10/2/2026 The manager got in touch with us and promptly sent out a service technician that was able to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot the issue with our thermostat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We got our AC replaced by Brick Street through Home Depot. After a week our AC wasn't working so we had to put in a service call. They came out and fixed it. Then our heating wasn't working and we put in a service call to have a tech come out to and troubleshoot but their HVAC department has been non responsive via email or voice mail. We are not able to get in contact with them at all. Will not be doing business with this company again. Very poor customer service.

Frequently asked questions

How much hot water should a water heater in Herndon supply?
It should comfortably cover your household's normal back-to-back use, such as two showers and a dishwasher run, without going cold. If it used to manage that and now cannot, something has changed inside the tank. A failed lower element, a broken dip tube or heavy sediment are the usual causes. If the household has grown, the tank may simply be too small, and a larger tank or tankless unit can solve it.
Can you convert my Herndon home's gas water heater to electric?
Yes. Switching from gas to electric, or electric to gas, is a job we handle regularly. Going electric usually means adding a dedicated circuit and properly capping the gas line and vent. Going to gas means running a gas line and providing correct venting and combustion air. We look at your electrical panel, gas service and space first and explain what the conversion involves, so there are no surprises.
Why is my water heater relief valve dripping?
The relief valve opens when pressure or temperature in the tank gets too high, and a steady drip means either the valve is worn or the system pressure really is too high. A missing or failed expansion tank is a common cause in homes with a check valve or pressure regulator on the main line. Do not cap or plug the discharge pipe. Call a plumber to test the valve and the home's water pressure.
Do you offer plumbing service in Herndon, VA around the clock?
Yes. Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air is available 24/7 for plumbing in Herndon, and an 11pm call is billed the same as one at noon. We handle burst pipes, water heater failures, backed-up drains and sewer problems, and our technicians are also licensed for HVAC work. Customers rate us 4.6 stars across 282 Google reviews, and you can reach a real person at any hour.
Where is the water shutoff for a water heater in a Herndon townhome?
Look for a valve on the cold water pipe that enters the top of the heater, usually a lever or round handle within a foot or two of the tank. In a closet installation it may be tucked behind the heater, so a flashlight helps. Turning it clockwise, or the lever a quarter turn, stops water going into the tank. If that valve will not close or leaks when you turn it, use the main shutoff for the home and call a plumber.
