Help for Germantown Townhomes, Condos and Single-Family Houses

Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air works as your plumber & HVAC in Germantown, MD, sending licensed and insured technicians for sewer line trouble, clogged drains, failing sump pumps, water heaters, air conditioning and heating. Germantown homeowners can reach us at (240) 969-4911 around the clock. We are available 24/7, and evenings, weekends and holidays carry no overtime fee. Every technician is certified in both plumbing and HVAC, so one visit can cover a leak under the sink and a furnace that keeps tripping its limit switch.

Germantown, in upper Montgomery County, grew quickly from the 1980s on, and its streets are full of townhouses, garden condos and single-family neighborhoods from that period. Shared walls change the stakes: a slow leak in one unit can show up as a stain next door. Many of these homes are also reaching the age where original water heaters and HVAC equipment give out. Our company is based in Leesburg, VA, and we serve Germantown along with Gaithersburg, Rockville and the rest of our service area.

REPLACING A WATER HEATER

Four Things to Weigh Before You Choose

Fuel type comes first. Gas, electric and heat pump water heaters all perform differently, and switching between them involves venting or wiring changes. Capacity is next. A tank sized for two people will run short for a family of five, while an oversized tank wastes energy keeping water hot that nobody uses. Then consider space. Many Germantown townhomes have the heater in a narrow closet, which limits the size and type that fit. Finally, compare efficiency. A plumber can help you balance all four and size the unit correctly. See our water heater replacement page for more detail.

Fantastic service - bought a home with a very old hot water heater, and Brick Street’s quote came out to be substantially less than the other plumbers I spoke with. No compromise on service for the price, though - Mary was incredibly responsive and friendly when it came to scheduling a time to install the new water heater, and Tylerr did an outstanding job getting the water heater set up and running. Overall very easy to work with, reasonably priced, and professional!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Service – Highly Recommend Brick Street Plumbing Water Heaters I recently had my entire HVAC system replaced after my old unit had been in my home for over 20 years. I requested an estimate through Home Depot, and they referred me to Brick Street Plumbing. Water Heaters, From beginning to end, my experience was excellent! Brian came to my home, carefully explained the different options available, and walked me through the entire installation process. He was very professional, knowledgeable, patient, and always available to answer my questions. Communication with Brian was outstanding throughout the entire project. One of the best parts of the installation was that they were able to relocate my water heater into an unused space in my basement. This made the entire HVAC area much more spacious, organized, and accessible. I am extremely happy with how everything turned out! I also want to recognize Austin, Gmo, and Dani for their excellent work. They were professional, hardworking, respectful of my home, and paid great attention to detail. Update 10/2/2026 The manager got in touch with us and promptly sent out a service technician that was able to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot the issue with our thermostat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We got our AC replaced by Brick Street through Home Depot. After a week our AC wasn't working so we had to put in a service call. They came out and fixed it. Then our heating wasn't working and we put in a service call to have a tech come out to and troubleshoot but their HVAC department has been non responsive via email or voice mail. We are not able to get in contact with them at all. Will not be doing business with this company again. Very poor customer service.

AROUND THE CLOCK

What Happens When You Call After Hours

A person answers, not a voicemail box. We ask what you are seeing, where the water is coming from or what the system is doing, and walk you through the shutoff or breaker that will stop the damage from spreading. Then a licensed technician comes to the house with the parts most likely needed. Sewer backups get a camera look at the line, and a dead furnace gets a full check of ignition, flame sensor, pressure switches and safety controls. Before any work starts, you hear what is wrong and what the repair involves. The rate does not change because the clock says midnight, since we never charge overtime fees. Commercial customers get the same process. A restaurant with a backed-up kitchen line or an office with a failed rooftop unit can call us at night just like a homeowner.

Frequently asked questions

What causes sewage to back up into my basement drain?
A blockage or break somewhere in the main sewer line is the usual cause. Tree roots, grease, wipes, a sagging section of pipe or a collapsed joint all stop wastewater from leaving, so it comes up through the lowest opening in the house, often a basement floor drain. Stop running water and call a plumber. A sewer inspection shows what is in the line and where, which decides whether cleaning or repair is the fix.
Who fixes a leak that is coming through from the townhouse next door?
Start by finding the source, because the repair belongs to whoever owns the leaking pipe or fixture. A plumber can trace the water to a supply line, drain or fixture and tell you which side of the wall it is on. If your home owners association covers shared plumbing, it may have its own process. Either way, shut off water to anything suspect and call us to locate the leak.
How do I know if my sump pump is working?
Test it by slowly pouring a bucket of water into the sump pit. The float should rise, the pump should start, and the water level should drop quickly before the pump shuts off. If the motor hums without pumping, does not start, or runs without stopping, it needs service. Testing a few times a year, especially before spring rains, catches most failures before they flood a basement.
Do you work on both heat pumps and gas furnaces in Germantown?
Yes. Townhomes and condos in the area often have heat pumps with electric backup, while many single-family houses use gas furnaces, and we repair, maintain and replace both. The technicians who work on them hold certifications in both trades and are factory-certified on what they install. If your system is near the end of its life, we can explain the options for your home before you decide anything.
Can a plumber come to Germantown on a weekend?
Yes. We work seven days a week and answer the phone 24/7. Weekend and holiday calls cost the same as weekday calls because we do not charge overtime. For an active leak, shut off the water to the fixture or the main line and call us, then a licensed plumber will come out to repair it.
