If you need a plumber in Frederick, Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air provides plumbing and HVAC service in Frederick, MD, handling everything from burst pipes and drain clogs to water heater replacements and furnace repairs. If you're searching for a plumber in Frederick, we're the crew that picks up the phone and shows up. Call us at (240) 969-4911 and we'll get someone to you fast, with no overtime charges regardless of when you call.

Many Frederick homes have some age on them, and older construction brings specific plumbing patterns worth knowing. Galvanized supply lines corrode from the inside out and can cut water pressure to a trickle before they fail completely. Outdoor plumbing and shallow supply lines are also vulnerable to freezing in a hard Maryland winter. Hard water is common in the area, and that mineral load accelerates scale buildup in water heaters, narrows supply lines over time, and shortens the life of fixtures. Our dual-certified technicians have seen these patterns repeatedly and know exactly what to look for when diagnosing a pressure drop or a water heater that's running out of hot water faster than it should.

LOCAL DETAIL

What Frederick's Hard Water Does to Plumbing

Hard water affects plumbing in ways that show up over years, not overnight. Scale builds inside water heater tanks and on heating elements, forcing the unit to work harder to hit the same temperature. Supply lines gradually narrow as mineral deposits accumulate on interior walls, reducing flow at fixtures and appliances. Older water heaters in Frederick homes often aren't failing because of age alone but because they've never been flushed and the sediment layer at the bottom has essentially become insulation between the burner and the water. We flush tanks, replace sacrificial anode rods, and give homeowners a straight answer about whether their unit has a few more years left or whether replacement is the smarter call. If you're already seeing scale on faucet aerators and shower heads, the same buildup is happening inside your pipes. A water softener installation won't fix existing scale, but it will stop the accumulation from getting worse, and it will extend the life of every appliance connected to your supply line.

PERMITS AND CODE

Frederick Permits: What Requires One

Many plumbing and HVAC jobs in Frederick, MD need a permit and inspection from the local permitting office, and what applies depends on the scope of the work and where your home is. Anything beyond simple fixture replacement usually needs one, and new gas lines or electrical circuits tied to an installation can need their own permits. We handle the permit research for every job we quote, so you're not left guessing which category your repair or replacement falls into. If your project needs a permit, we pull it. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that clearly and explain why. If a utility rebate may apply to your new equipment, we'll point you to it so you can check eligibility. Every job is different. Contact Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air for an accurate estimate.

Why Dual-Certified Technicians Matter

A lot of contractors are licensed for plumbing or HVAC. We're certified in both, and that difference shows up on integrated system jobs.

One Crew, No Handoffs

When a water heater replacement involves gas line work and the HVAC system shares the same utility space, a single-trade contractor hits a wall. Our dual-certified technicians can address both sides of the job on the same visit.

Better Diagnoses

Low hot water pressure is sometimes a plumbing issue. Sometimes it's the water heater. Sometimes it's a combination. A technician who only knows one trade tends to diagnose toward what they can fix. Ours don't have that blind spot.

Factory-Certified on Equipment

Our technicians carry factory certifications on the equipment they install. That matters for warranty validation, because a manufacturer's warranty can be voided by an installation that doesn't meet their own certification standards.

Fantastic service - bought a home with a very old hot water heater, and Brick Street’s quote came out to be substantially less than the other plumbers I spoke with. No compromise on service for the price, though - Mary was incredibly responsive and friendly when it came to scheduling a time to install the new water heater, and Tylerr did an outstanding job getting the water heater set up and running. Overall very easy to work with, reasonably priced, and professional!

Update 10/2/2026 The manager got in touch with us and promptly sent out a service technician that was able to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot the issue with our thermostat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We got our AC replaced by Brick Street through Home Depot. After a week our AC wasn't working so we had to put in a service call. They came out and fixed it. Then our heating wasn't working and we put in a service call to have a tech come out to and troubleshoot but their HVAC department has been non responsive via email or voice mail. We are not able to get in contact with them at all. Will not be doing business with this company again. Very poor customer service.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if I have a plumbing emergency in Frederick, MD on nights or weekends?
Call us directly at (240) 969-4911. We handle emergency plumbing calls in Frederick with no overtime charge, meaning a call at 11pm costs the same rate as a call at noon. While you're waiting, shut off the main water supply valve to limit damage, especially if you're dealing with a burst pipe or a supply line failure. In older Frederick homes, that main shutoff is often in the basement near the front foundation wall or in a utility room.
How do I know if my water heater needs repair or replacement in a Frederick home?
Hard water accelerates wear on water heaters. If your unit is under 8 years old and losing efficiency or producing inconsistent hot water, a flush and anode rod replacement might extend its life considerably. If it's over 10 to 12 years old, has visible rust on the tank exterior or in the water itself, or is struggling to keep up with demand despite a recent service, replacement is usually the more cost-effective path. We'll give you a direct answer after looking at the unit. Every job is different. Contact Brick Street Plumbing Heat & Air for an accurate estimate.
What causes low water pressure in older Frederick houses?
The most common causes in Frederick's older housing stock are corroded galvanized supply lines, which narrow internally as rust builds up over decades, and mineral scale accumulation from hard water. A pressure-reducing valve that's past its service life can also cause pressure to drop below normal. Less commonly, a slow leak somewhere in the supply line will reduce pressure at fixtures. We diagnose the root cause before recommending a fix, because replacing fixtures won't solve a supply line problem.
Does plumbing work in Frederick, MD require a permit?
Most plumbing work beyond simple fixture swaps requires a permit and inspection from the local permitting office. New supply or drain line installations, water heater replacements connected to gas or requiring new electrical circuits, and sewer line repairs all typically require permits and inspections. Routine service work and minor repairs often don't. We assess permit requirements for every job we quote and pull the necessary permits ourselves, so you're not navigating that process on your own.
How does Frederick's hard water affect my pipes and fixtures?
Hard water carries a high concentration of dissolved calcium and magnesium. Over time, that mineral load deposits inside pipes, on water heater heating elements, inside appliances, and on fixture aerators and showerheads. Supply lines gradually reduce in flow capacity. Water heaters lose efficiency as sediment layers build at the tank bottom. The practical result is shorter equipment lifespans and higher energy bills. A whole-house water softener installation addresses the root cause. Annual water heater flushes slow the damage in the meantime.
How often should residential plumbing be inspected in Frederick?
For most Frederick homes, a plumbing inspection every two to three years is a reasonable baseline. Homes built before 2000 with original galvanized or copper supply lines benefit from more frequent checks, since hard water accelerates corrosion and scale buildup. Pre-purchase inspections are non-negotiable: with homes ranging widely in age and construction type, plumbing condition can vary considerably from one house to the next in Frederick County. An AC repair or drain cleaning visit is also a good opportunity to ask us about the plumbing while we're on site.
